About Us

Hi there, we are the Mortimer family (Christine, Wattie, Jasmine and Caitlyn). We took over ownership of Elite Cat Boarding in April 2024, having spent the previous few years living up in St Arnaud.  Our two daughters are at Garin College and spend a lot of time helping out with the cattery - your cats will never be short of cuddles and attention! Wattie, my husband, is the local Fire Chief at Wakefield and also works full time for Fire and Emergency looking after all the Fire Stations around Marlborough, Tasman and the West Coast. The past 12 months have flown by as we have made many changes and upgrades to the facilities. Check out our Facebook page where I post the latest photos, as we now have extended one side of our main cattery block.

Our Facilities

Located in a tranquil rural setting, our facilities provide a safe and relaxing stay for your treasured pet. We take security very seriously; having recently upgraded our door entry systems so that the inner door cannot open if the outer door is also open - there will be no escapees! We have also added security lighting with cameras incase we have any unwelcome visitors. This records direct to our phones so we can see what is going on 24/7.

As well as ensuring your pets are secure and safe, we take extra care to understand your pets and get to know their individual needs. Plenty of individual attention and cuddles are given to all cats, and comfortable ‘hidey-hole beds’ are provided for those who perhaps are a bit more timid.

All cats are housed separately (apart from those from the same family) within our two cattery buildings. The first houses 26 enclosures. 15 of these have now been extended, providing three metres of individual outdoor space. We have fitted each of these enclosures out with platforms and hidey holes. The remaining 11 enclosures have a much smaller outdoor patio however they also take turns in one of our large outdoor enclosures so that they all get some outdoor grass and play areas. We are constantly looking at ways of upgrading our facilities - over the next couple of months we will be installing more lockable cat doors between enclosures, to allow multiple cat families to enjoy double enclosures, rather than being housed separately. We also have one enclosure with it’s own exclusive access to a grassed outside area.

The second building contains 6 larger indoor/ outdoor apartment units. These apartments are prioritised for cat families where there are multiple cats or long stay boarders. They contain a variety of furniture to relax on and toys plus all day direct access to their own outdoor enclosure complete with platforms and ladders.

Prior to your cat arriving, I set up the enclosure to suit and this can be quite flexible - whether it be low furniture for an elderly feline, or plenty to keep a young kitten entertained. If your cat has special needs please feel free to discuss them with me.

We stock a variety of brands but normally feed Purina One or Whiskas dry food and Whiskas or Chef wet food. Feel free to bring your cat food from home, although there is no discount for this.

We request the current status of your cat’s flea and worm treatment. If we find fleas we will contact you and treat at your own cost.

We are happy to administer medications - at no extra charge to you.

Cages

We require all cats to be transported in a secure cage. We have some cages available for hire if required.
